Communication/Journalism 250-Speech Communication
Students in this class will have ample opportunity to practice public speaking. Exercises and assignments include reading speeches, impromtu questions and answer sessions, informal informational talks, and formal academic presentations. Students will study the mechanics of public speaking, including developing improved vocal delivery skills and understanding how to analyze and put into practice effective non-verbal communication (including such issues as posture, muscle relaxation, and blocking.) Students will also study the theoretical aspects of verbal and non-verbal communication, including cross-cultural communication, and how personal communication translates to new technologies like Facebook and Second Life.
Assignments will include presentations, papers, and reading quizzes in different formats (verbal, written, etc.).
